Request for commissioner applications

The Harrison City Council adopted Ordinance No. 1528 in August to create a Historic District

Commission. The basic function of the Commission will be to promote the public's educational, cultural,

economic, and general welfare through the preservation and protection of buildings, sites, places, and districts of historic interest. Initial tasks for the first Commission will include (1)

reporting on and creating a local historic district, and (2) developing and implementing design guidelines for the conservation of structures within the local historic districts.

The City is currently seeking five (5) individuals to serve on the Commission. Qualifications for serving on the Commission are as follows:

• Members must be a resident of Harrison and registered to vote within the city limits.

• Members cannot hold a salaried or elective office with the City.

• Members shall demonstrate a positive interest in historic preservation, possessing interest or expertise in architecture, history, building rehabilitation, archeology, or preservation or conservation in general.

Generally speaking, we are looking for individuals with a background in history, archeology, architectural history, architecture, and architectural experience with historic structures.
